BLOCKBUSTER DEAL

Tuesday was an ordinary morning for Sens and Leafs faithful, the players from both teams had optional skates, there was some talk that a trade between Ottawa and Toronto was in the works with big name Dion Phaneuf involved. No way that would happen right? Until it did. At 10:22 am the news broke and the city of Ottawa went insane. The Senators trade: Jared Cowen, Milan Michalek, Collin Greening, Tobias Lindberg, and a 2017 2nd round draft pick to Toronto in exchange for Dion Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert, and Cody Donaghey. No salary was retained. Now I know what you may be thinking, why in the name of hell would we want Phaneuf? Like c'mon isn't he the worst option available? Well to answer that question no, Phaneuf brings depth that was badly needed to the Senators defence core. He will be a great mentor for his dman partner Cody Ceci and the whole team, Getting some powerplay time with Erik Karlsson and providing less minutes for Karlsson and evening out the minutes. Now the Senators gave up Cowen and Greening (Thank God) and Michalek who wasn't performing anyways. Besides Phaneuf the biggest part of this trade was Tobias Lindberg, a forward with great potential, possibly an NHL top 6 forward, he will be the kicker in the trade. So who won this trade? Currently the Ottawa Senators, in 5 years? The Toronto Maple Leafs.
